High-density tapes (such as yellow gas-rated or pink commercial tapes) contain more virgin PTFE material per cubic centimeter. They resist shearing and tearing on sharp threads, creating a robust seal. Low-density tapes (often standard white consumer tape) can shred, requiring more wraps to achieve a leak-free seal.
No, standard white tape is too thin and prone to galling on stainless steel. We recommend thick, high-density gray/nickel-impregnated or pink PTFE thread seal tapes to prevent thread binding and galling during assembly.
